An ephemeral installation with paper and fire. This papercut installation by Fred HC Liang was initially conceived for the Schoolhouse Building at the Groton School, Groton, MA. It was created just before the COVID pandemic ravaged across the world, as a result, it prolonged the installation at Groton School. One year after the quarantines from the pandemic, the work was reinstalled on the Floating Forest, 39 acres of land in upstate NY, Coxsackie West. As the spring sun warms the ground and life’s activities sprouting from its hibernation, reclaiming the sunlight from the COVID winter, this piece was installed amidst the baron forest. The bright golden paper was then ritualistically set on fire and returned to the ashes, lamenting the losses of the devastating pandemic.
