Justin Adian (b. 1976, Fort Worth, Texas) creates hybrid works that blur the line between painting and sculpture, crafting abstract wall reliefs that are both playful and precise. By stretching painted canvas over ester foam and mounting it on wooden supports, he forms soft-edged geometric compositions that vibrate with color and rhythm. Though formally abstract, Adian’s works remain grounded through his use of industrial materials and evocative, often Texan-inspired titles that lend a touch of humor and familiarity. Adian earned his BFA from the University of North Texas in 2000 and his MFA from Rutgers University in 2003. His work has been exhibited internationally, with solo shows at Lowell Ryan Projects in Los Angeles, Half Gallery in New York, Almine Rech in Paris, and Skarstedt in London. He has also been featured in major group exhibitions at Gagosian, Luxembourg & Dayan, and Almine Rech, and his work is held in the collection of the Dallas Museum of Art.
